About

Glaziers install storefront framing, curtain walls, unitized systems, metal doors, glass doors, door hardware, automatic doors, glass panels, glass railings, skylight systems, insulated glass, photovoltaic glass, shower doors, glass in wood, metal or composite frames and are certified in Shielded Metal Arc Welding.


Length of Apprenticeship

  • 3 years, a minimum of 4,200 hours of on the job learning.

  • Apprentices attend classroom instruction for one day (8 hours), every other week for the three year program.

  • Related instruction as required.


Wage Information

  • First - Six months 50% of Journeyperson’s wage rate.

  • Second - Six months of 55% of Journeyperson’s wage rate.

  • Third - Six months 65% of Journeyperson’s wage rate.

  • Fourth - Six months 75% of Journeyperson’s wage rate.

  • Fifth - Six months 85% of Journeyperson’s wage rate.

  • Sixth - Six months 95% of Journeyperson’s wage rate.

After three years of Apprenticeship and upon certification of the JATC Instructor and JATC Trustees, he/she shall be given the current Journeyperson’s wage rate.

Basic Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.

  • Must be a legal U.S. Resident and possess a Social Security Card.

  • Must have a High School Diploma or a GED.

  • Must have a valid drivers license.

  • Must pass a written aptitude test.

  • Must have reliable transportation.


Work Experience

  • Familiarity with the glazing trade, construction work and power tools.


Abilities

  • Must be able to lift at least 70 pounds.

  • Must be able to work at heights from scaffolds and ladders.

  • Must be able to follow instruction.

  • Must be able to pay attention to detail.


Recommended Preparatory Classes

  • Mathematics, geometry, mechanical drawing and computer classes.


Entry Process

  • Complete the application forms at the JATC office

  • Applications are available (as determined by the JATC) on the 1st and 3rd Monday’s of every month, 9am-12pm. Call our office for an appointment.

  • Must be 18 years of age.

  • Submit a $25.00 application fee (no personal checks).

  • Submit the required documents - High School Diploma or GED, valid driver’s license, social security card, birth certificate.

  • Must pass a written math aptitude test - 70% or higher passing grade

  • Applicant must seek employment. Once hired, prior to starting work, the applicant must meet with the Coordinator, present the “Letter of Intent to Hire” from the contractor stating name, address, telephone number, and social security number.

  • Must take a drug screening within 48 hours or 2 working days after notification from the Apprentice Coordinator.

  • Applicant must pass an in-person interview with the JATC.

  • Applicant must pay a non-refundable initiation fee before beginning work.
